Free Renewable Energy Lessons for Elementary Kids

9 May
free renewable energy lessons for kids ngss

Do you need free renewable energy lessons for 4th grade? Look no further, because this post will include a list of free Youtube videos you can use. The lessons in these videos are aligned to NGSS standards, and 4th grade is expected to learn about natural energy sources, fossil fuels, and the benefits and costs of every source of energy.

Some of the questions they need to be able to reflect on and respond to are the following: What are renewable energy sources? How do they compare to nonrenewable energy sources such as fossil fuels? Which energy sources affect the Earth? How do humans impact the Earth? What can people do to impact the Earth in a positive way?

Also, if you are looking for Free Kinetic and Potential Energy Lessons, you can click this blog post.

What are students expected to learn in these free renewable energy lessons for 4th grade?

In my renewable energy unit, 4th-grade students are expected to learn about natural energy sources and fossil fuels. Thus, they are expected to tell how people impact the Earth in a negative and positive way. Some of the energy sources they will also specifically learn about are tidal energy, wave energy, geothermal energy, solar energy, and wind energy.

Summatively, this is an exciting and engaging unit for the students to learn, and these lessons allow the 4th graders to understand the academic vocabulary. Also, with so much to teach about renewable energy, these lessons will help focus on the most important parts of the Earth and Human Impact NGSS standards for 4th grade.

About the Natural Energy Lessons

I have created Google Slides for each of the 4 lessons for this unit. Below you will find the Youtube videos of the recorded lessons. The videos are free, but the Google Slide lessons are not included with the videos. You can find those here.

renewable energy lessons for 4th grade ngss earth and human impact

Each of the Google slide lessons includes a Google Form check for understanding that you can have the students complete. It’s the perfect way to see the content knowledge students acquire during the lesson. Students will also have a printable for writing notes with specific questions to respond to as they listen to the lesson.

You will find five free video lessons in this renewable energy unit for 4th-grade NGSS science. Each of the 4th-grade science videos is less than 7 minutes long, and can be shown during whole group instruction or shared in Google Classroom for consistent review.

If you get the bundle, you will have access to all of the videos as well as the Google Slides they are created in. They are editable, so you can also add, and take away any concepts you wish.

The FREE Videos

Make teaching simple and easy with this 5 lesson bundle for the Renewable Energy Unit that is aligned to the 4- ESS3 Earth and Human Activity NGSS standards. They are a part of the 4th Grade NGSS Curriculum. The lessons are in Google Slides with editable text and also include a Google Form check for understanding with a student page to take notes. If you purchase this bundle, you will get 30% off the complete lesson bundle with everything you need to teach the 4-ESS3 standards.

Renewable Energy Lesson 1: Natural and Nonrenewable Energy Resources Lesson

First, this video is the introduction to the unit. Students will get an overview lesson about what renewable energy is and why we need it. Students will also learn about fossil fuels and the impact they make on the environment.

Renewable Energy Lesson 2: Natural Energy Sources Pros and Cons for Kids in Elementary

Next, this video goes deeper into renewable energy sources such as tidal energy, wind energy, wave energy, geothermal energy, and solar energy. Also, students will learn how each of those sources impacts the Earth. They will have to discuss the benefits and costs for each of the sources.

Renewable Energy Lesson 3: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Upcycle

After the last lesson, students will learn in continuation how they can make an impact on the environment in a positive way. This is the perfect Earth Day lesson that you can teach along with an Earth day science or STEM activity. So, students will need to know how they can reuse, recycle, reduce, and upcycle different everyday items to create less waste.

Renewable Energy Lesson 4: Upcycled Item Stem Challenge

Finally, this is the final lesson in the unit. Students will take all the information they have learned and have a cumulative stem project. Then, they will have to create an upcycled item using items they would originally throw out. Students are given the opportunity to put their learning to use in this Earth Day Stem Activity. Also, you can use any materials to build an upcycled item in this lesson.

I hope these lessons work for you in your classroom or as an addition to Earth Day activities. These lessons lend themselves really well to Earth Day activities, and you can find my list of simple and engaging Earth Day activities here.

SAVE TIME AND ENERGY WITH THE LESSON BUNDLE

You can find the lessons bundled together here.

In this purchase, you will find that the lessons, videos, and Google Forms are included in a comprehensive set.

Included you will find the editable Google Slides along with a Google Form assessment, student notes pages, and links to the videos.
